Letters
There is no limit to the amount of letters an inmate can send or receive. However, we will not accept newspaper clippings (they get a newspaper), internet printouts (unless it's law-related), pornography, gang or hate group publications, or letters with stickers or glitter on them.

Address the envelope as follows:
Inmate's Name
C/O Jackson County Jail
Pod (if known)
150 E. State Rd. 250
Brownstown, IN 47220

ALL MAIL MUST HAVE A RETURN ADDRESS!  Inmates will NOT be given mail that does not have a return address>

Books
You can send books to an inmate. The inmate may have up to three books in their cell at a time and they must be soft cover. All books sent to inmates (except a personal bible) become property of the Jackson County Jail. When the inmate is done with the book, it will be placed in our library for other inmates to enjoy.

Money
Inmates may have money for commissary purchases; doctor, dentist, and medication refill co-pays; and phone time. There are two different ways to leave money for an inmate:
  • Lobby Kiosk - A kiosk is located in the lobby at the Jackson County Jail and never closes. The kiosk will accept cash or debit / credit cards.
  • Money Orders - Money orders should be mailed to the Jackson County Jail with the inmate's name and location on the envelope and money order. Please do not send money orders with letters or books.
